This photocell sensor switch turns your lights on automatically as it gets dark and off again at daybreak, so nothing needs to be switched by hand. It is commonly used for street lights, garden lights, highways, and similar outdoor lighting setups.

How it works A built in light sensor reads the surrounding light level. When it gets dark enough, the switch closes and powers the connected light. When daylight returns, it switches off again on its own, with no timer to set and no manual operation once it is wired in.
