Small pendants cut from black lava stone, in two forms — a tall dome and a round sphere. Both are deliberately small, and both are designed to hang in groups rather than alone.

Lava stone

Volcanic rock, cut and finished rather than moulded. The surface carries visible pores and mineral flecks, and the tone shifts between pieces — no two are the same.

Unlike marble or travertine, lava stone stays matte and dark. It absorbs light rather than glowing, so what you see is a solid black form with light falling cleanly from beneath it. The black cable and canopy disappear against a ceiling.

Two forms

Dome — 9.6 cm across, 18 cm tall. Taller than it is wide, with a longer vertical presence. Hung in a row it reads as a series of columns.

Sphere — 10 cm across, 11 cm tall. Rounder and more compact, with a small aperture underneath that throws a tighter beam.

Both are small enough that a single one over a dining table would be lost. Three or five hung together at staggered heights over an island, a stairwell or a dining table is the effect these are built for.

If you want a single statement pendant, our 28 cm black marble is the better choice. These earn their place in multiples.

The bulbs are different — check before you buy

The Dome takes E27, the standard screw fitting used across most of our lighting, and ships with a 3W LED bulb.

The Sphere takes GU10, a twist-in pin fitting. Bulb not included, and a GU10 is not interchangeable with an E27 — buy the right one.

Wattage limits are low on both, and this matters more than on a larger fitting. These shades are small and enclose the bulb closely, so heat has nowhere to go. Stay within 9W on the Dome and 7W on the Sphere, and use LED rather than halogen.

Use a warm 2700–3000K bulb on either. Cool white against black stone reads clinical.

Cord length

The Dome comes with 300 cm of braided cable — unusual, and useful for double-height ceilings, stairwell voids and mezzanines where a standard cord leaves a pendant stranded near the ceiling.

The Sphere comes with 150 cm, which suits standard ceilings.

Both are cut or coiled to length on installation, so in a cluster you can set each pendant at a different drop from the same ceiling point.

Where they work

Kitchen islands, dining tables, stairwells, bedside in pairs, and above a bar or counter. Suits natural-material, industrial and minimalist interiors.

Before you order

Check which bulb fitting you need — E27 for the Dome, GU10 for the Sphere.

Respect the wattage limit. 9W on the Dome, 7W on the Sphere. The shades are small and enclose the bulb.

This is hardwired. It connects to a ceiling point, not a plug, and installation should be done by a qualified electrician.

Order the quantity you need. These are sold individually and designed to hang in groups. Order matching pieces together so the stone tones sit closer.

Indoor only. IP20 means no moisture protection.

Cleaning: dry cloth only. Lava stone is porous and will absorb water and cleaning products.
